Tibetan Medicine in the West
The Gyudshi transmission II
On the 2nd and 3rd of July 2011, the first part of the Gyud-shi lung transmission was given in Milan, Italy, by Dr. Pasang Y. Arya. A big thank you to one of the participants, Dr. Raul Romero, for his testimony.
Milano, Italy, July 2011.
When I first heard of a rGyud bZhi Lung Oral Transmission I became fascinated and suddenly knew that my presence was mandatory. I arranged my travel from the USA to Italy in less than one week. 10 Hours of Flight travel.
The transmission lasted two days, and for several hours each day, the first, second and forth rGyud bZhi Tantras were transmited in Tibetan, the mother and mystical language of the tantras.
That transmission usually was conferred upon a few chosen students from a holder master of the tradition, and there we were, mainly all western scholars and a few eastern ones.
Our instructor and Master, Professor Dr. Pasang Yonten Arya, Scholar, Researcher, Doctor, and Holder of the direct lineage coming from the Buddha Sakyatupa himself incarnated the presence of the Medicine Buddha Baidurya Sangye Menla, Bhaishajyaguru, King of Lapis Lazuli Light, presiding the retinue for the benefit of the lineage, students of the art of healing and sentient beings.
His radiant body is azure blue. His left hand is in the meditation mudra and holds a bowl full of long life nectar. As a sign of giving protection from illness, his right hand is in the gesture of giving and holds a plant of myrobolan, the “great medicine”.
When I entered the room with more than eighty western and eastern practitioners I realized that I was not entering in a normal place, we were transported to the Medicine Buddha land, filled with Deities, Bodhisattvas, Protectors, Kings and Medical science masters, holders and practitioners, so far and so near, with incredibly beautiful colors, scents, flowers and stars.
As the ceremony began and the transmission was taking place something strange happened, this sacred and magical sound bearing waves of enlightening energy was entering into my heart and slowly filling unknown and hidden places of my mind, so strong, so profound and so deeply that we were being blessed in undescribed ways.
Though I’m writing about this experience it remains a mystery as what I was able to grasp and see was only the surface, like a child playing with the sand in a shore of a mysterious deep blue ocean.
Homage to the Medicine Buddhas, Masters, protectors and lineage holders to whom we are greatly indebted for eons and eons.
May this blossom for the benefit of all.
